About Me

Hi! I'm Paddy Moogan.

After working in the marketing industry for close to 20 years, I’ve managed a lot of people. It wasn’t until nearly a decade of running my own agency for close to a decade that I realised what my true passion was: seeing people develop and have fulfilling, engaging careers. I realised that not only did I enjoy this, but I was pretty good at it too.

This is why I created The New Leader: a resource of free guides, blog posts, newsletter and courses that help you become a more effective manager.

My Story

I built my first website when I was 14 years old, using Notepad and an FTP program. Around the same time, I started my first “business” at school – buying sweets at the local shop and selling them to my school mates at lunchtime. I’d then use my profits to buy myself lunch (and more sweets) the following day.

I guess i should have known back then that I was meant to work for myself and that I’d fall into technology at some point.

I took a few detours along the way, including getting a Law degree and starting (and selling) a florist business.

15 years later, I co-founded my digital agency, Aira which I’m now the CEO of which ultimately led me to realise that my true passion lies in helping people develop their careers.

Why The New Leader Exists

I originally created the training decks, templates and resources that would eventually become The New Leader because I saw a problem at my own agency – we were promoting team members into management positions, but wasn’t doing the best job of supporting them with this huge transition.

I realised that just because someone was good at their day-to-day job and could deliver client work, didn’t mean that they would automatically become great managers. I kept thinking about a phrase that I’d heard previously:

What got you here, won’t get you there.

So, I got to work in creating a series of training sessions for our managers, covering all of the common challenges of being a manager that they would face.

I didn’t know it then, but this content formed the basis of what you find on The New Leader today.
